I’m Sharlene, a qualified counsellor and CBTI therapist in Gainsborough with lived experience of insomnia and ADHD offering online counselling to adults all over the UK.

Living with ADHD (diagnosed or not) can feel like swinging between two extremes: bursts of focus and motivation followed by complete burnout. One day you’re super productive, the next, you can’t even get up in the morning. Before you know it - housework, bills, emails and life’s pressures all start piling up, and you’re left drowning in guilt, exhaustion and overwhelm.

What is counselling?

Therapy provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns. As your counsellor, I will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others. As a counsellor I will help you find your own solutions – whether that’s making effective changes in your life or finding ways of coping with your problems.

What areas do you help with?

I support individuals across a broad range such as depression and low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, PTSD, work-related stress, anger, relationship difficulties and life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, family difficulties, sexual abuse and neurodivergence/ ADHD challenges. My specialist area is using CBT-I for chronic insomnia.

What is your policy on confidentiality?

All records are held in secure locations, and no information will be disclosed to a third party without your written permission, except under very rare circumstances such as notes being requested by the courts, or if I have serious concerns that you present a danger to yourself or to others. I will be receiving regular clinical supervision to ensure that therapeutic standards remain high. This means that information might be shared with my supervisor on an anonymous basis.

How long do people have counselling for?

There is no hard and fast rule. For some people it is a matter of a few sessions, for others it can be much longer. We will discuss your progress as we go along. Some clients will re-engage with counselling periodically as their life changes direction or when they feel they need some extra support.
