My Story

I struggled with insomnia and ongoing sleep problems for as long as I can remember, but it became very severe in my mid-late 20s and well into my 30s. For around 11 years, sleep felt completely out of my control. I was exhausted all the time, but no matter how tired I was, I still couldn’t sleep. I ended up relying on sleeping tablets for nearly 10 of those years, just trying to get through each night and be able to function the next day.

It didn’t just stay as a night-time issue either, it became a daytime one. I was off work. I couldn’t stay at people’s houses. I stopped making plans with friends and when I did, I’d cancel because I was too tired. It affected everything.. My work, relationships, social life, physical health and mental health. I was constantly running on empty, completely overwhelmed and I hit a real low point with my mental health.

I was later diagnosed with ADHD, which helped me understand myself more, but it didn’t fix my sleep.

What I came to realise is that insomnia isn’t just about being unable to sleep… it’s about the patterns and behaviours that unknowingly keep it going. And that’s where CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia) changed everything for me. For the first time, I understood what was actually driving my insomnia, and more importantly, what to do about it through CBT-I sleep therapy. I learnt how to work with my mind instead of constantly fighting it and how to rebuild my sleep in a way that actually lasts.

I rebuilt my life from the ground up. I overcame a sleeping tablet dependency, lost six stone, retrained as both a counsellor and a CBT-I therapist specialising in insomnia and sleep therapy. These days, I’m climbing mountains… literally. These days, I’m climbing mountains! Literally! Turns out, the view’s much better up there than at rock bottom (and a great reason to eat a 4 pack of Mars bars!)

Now, I use both my professional training and lived experience to support adults struggling with insomnia, sleep difficulties, ADHD, anxiety and burnout across the UK. Because when your sleep improves, your mental wellbeing and everything else starts to improve too.

Life can be relentless and exhausting, and sometimes you just need someone to be there for you, someone who truly gets you and knows what it’s like to be struggling. We can share the ups and downs, the tears and the laughter... together.
